History
This is one of four double-ended wedge ploughs (another being 55699) built in 1939 by the CN Transcona Shops (Winnipeg)
for use in the Atlantic Region. These rare ploughs were used on branch lines where no turning facilities were available. They
had been assigned to locations such as Bathurst and Dalhousie in New Brunswick, Bridgewater and Stellarton in Nova Scotia,
and Murray Harbour in Prince Edward Island. Plough 55698 was last used in P.E.I. It was bought by the S & H in 1983 and
saw its first S & H service on January 26, 1985.
It is 13.6m (44' 9") long, weighs 32.5 tonnes (35.7 tons), has 28" wheels with no springs.
